The Barracudas

Sine Saloum Nature Camp

In the heart of the Sine Saloum, on a shell island not far from Sokone, a change of scenery is guaranteed in this small camp integrated into nature.
You will be captivated by the magical charm of this site where your African huts offer you extraordinary comfort in the bush.
Exceptional moments on the bar terrace by the beautiful saltwater solar-powered pool overlooking the bolong, a sea inlet bordered by mangroves, connected to the Saloum River.

Thatched-roof bungalows are scattered throughout the garden, all ventilated and equipped with private toilets and showers with hot water. Electricity is provided by solar panels and an independent generator.

In the restaurant you will enjoy typical Senegalese dishes but especially mangrove oysters (a specialty of Sokone), the best fish (red carp, barracudas...).

To stay connected, wifi is available in the common areas of the campsite from 7pm to 9pm.

Numerous land and water excursions are possible in the Saloum Delta: a magnificent kayak trip through the small creeks, following the tracks of jackals, hyenas, monkeys, and all the inhabitants of the mangroves; visits to Serer and Mandinka villages, weekly village markets, horse-drawn carriage rides on sandy tracks, bush walks, pirogue excursions, deserted beaches, fishing villages, birdwatching, fishing...

Located on a shell island on the banks of an arm of the Sine Saloum

From Dakar (3/4 hour).
- By the Foundiougne ferry (daytime only. Check the schedule; close Wednesday afternoons). Take the A1 to M'bour, Fatick, then the R61 to the Foundiougne ferry, then Djilor and Sokone. From Sokone, it's a 6 km drive through the bush and the desert. In Sokone, follow the signs to the gendarmerie, cross a ford, and continue along the signs.
- Route via Kaolack (45 minutes): Take the A1, then the N1 to M'bour, Fatick, and Kaolack, then the N4 and N5 to Passi and Sokone. From Sokone, it's a 6 km drive through the bush and dunes. In Sokone, head towards the gendarmerie, then cross a ford and follow the signs.
